T’Wolves take sixth at Treynor meet
TREYNOR — The Southwest Valley boys’ track and field team had the best finish out of several area teams competing in the Jerome Howe Relays last Monday at Treynor High School.
Southwest Valley finished sixth with a score of 54 points. St. Albert won the team title with Nishnabotna claiming runner-up. Griswold finished ninth with 43 points and East Mills took 15th with a score of 17.50.
The highlight for Southwest Valley came in the 110-meter hurdles when Tony Klocke and Colten Drake were first and second in the race. Klocke won with a time of 16.14, while Drake finished second with 16.41.
Drake picked up a win in the high jump when he jumped 6’. He beat out teammate Scott Vanderhoof, who finished second with a jump of 5’10”.
The only other area finisher in the high jump was Sam Rew, who tied for third with a jump of 5’8”. Rew also had an eighth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.40.
The only other win for Southwest Valley came in the shuttle hurdle relay when they took first with a time of 1:03.53.
Griswold’s top individual finish came in the 100-meter dash when Derek Kirchhoff took third with a time of 11.78 seconds. Brett Daley of Treynor (11.62) and Chad Blank of Nishnabotna (11.69) edged out Kirchhoff.
David Thompson also provided an individual highlight for Griswold thanks to his fourth place finish in the 3,200. Thompson ran a time of 11:11.78.
In the long jump, Aaron Metheny took fourth with a jump of 18’5.25”. East Mills’ Josh Hopkins took eighth in the event with a jump of 17’4.75”.
In the relay races, Griswold finished second (3:58.85) in the distance medley, third (1:04.20) in the shuttle hurdles, fourth (47.63) in the 4x100 and fifth in the 4x200 (1:41.22) and 4x800 (9:11.22).
For East Mills, the only other individual top finisher was Matt Glockel, who took seventh in the shot put with a throw of 39’2”.
The best relay finish for East Mills came in the 4x200 when they took fourth with a time of 1:39.98.
