Sports Calendar: April 16

It's a loaded sports calendar for Thursday with plenty going on around the area.

There are five different track meets on the calendar featuring area teams for Thursday. It's a big day for a lot of the area track athletes as it is their last chance to get results in to try and qualify for the Drake Relays.

The Red Oak boys track team will be at one of those meets as they take part in the Panther Relays at Creston High School. The meet was originally scheduled for Friday, but will now take place Thursday at 5 p.m.

The Red Oak girls track team will also be in action for Thursday as they compete in Shenandoah at the Fillie Relays. Both Stanton and Essex are scheduled to compete at the meet as well, which starts at 4:30 p.m.

Both Southwest Valley track teams will be in action, but at different locations.

The boys track team travels to Osceola to compete at the Clarke meet. That meet is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start. The girls will take part in the Guthrie Center meet, which also starts at 5 p.m.

The Griswold girls track team meanwhile goes on the road to compete in the Tri-Center meet. That will start at 4:30 p.m.

The big golf tournament for Thursday will be the Fillies Tournament at the American Legion Country Club in Shenandoah. That will kick off at 1:30 p.m. as it includes Red Oak, Southwst Valley and East Mills.

Meanwhile, the Griswold boys golf team goes on the road to face Clarinda. That meet starts at 4:30 p.m.

In tennis, it will be Red Oak and Southwest Valley facing off against each other. For the girls team, they'll be the ones home for the first time this season. That meet starts at 4:30 p.m. at Red Oak High School. The boys meanwhile will go to Corning for their meet against Southwest Valley, which also starts at 4:30 p.m.
