Red Oak rebounds with wins over CB-area schools
RED OAK — The Red Oak boys tennis team scored two wins over Council Bluffs schools to get back over .500 for the season.
Both wins came Thursday afternoon at Red Oak High School when they defeated Lewis Central and St. Albert by a 6-3 score.
Against Lewis Central, Red Oak powered through in doubles to get close wins.
Weston Rolenc and Dean Smith scored a win in No. 1 doubles when they defeated Jake Drustrup and Ryan Higginbotham 10-7.
Meanwhile, the doubles pairing of Keatis Kunze and Donnie Torbett needed a tiebreaker to win their match as they defeated Cory and Colton Lear 11-10 (6).
Red Oak won four of six singles matches against Lewis Central.
Rolenc got a 10-8 victory against Drustrup, while Kunze won 10-6 over Higginbotham.
Smith defeated Cory Lear (no score available) while Sean Griffen defeated Cole Scheidel 10-5.
Earlier in the day, Red Oak won two of three in doubles to defeat St. Albert.
Rolenc and Griffen defeated Trevor Rhedin and Christian Baer 10-0, while Smith and Jesse Taylor defeated Cooper Bowman and Nathan Rhedin 10-0.
In singles, Smith defeated Rhedin 10-1, which was also the same score for Torbett, who defeated Baer. Taylor defeated Bowman 10-0 and Griffen defeated Rhedin 10-1.
The girls meanwhile got back on track with a 7-2 win in Council Bluffs over Lewis Central. The Tigers won five of six singles matches to ensure the win.
Grace Blomstedt got an 8-1 win over Ally Bergsten, while Micayla Taylor defeated Kaylee Reynolds 8-4. Sarah Behrens defeated Sara Braquen 8-4. MaKayla LeRette downed Hannah Moen 8-2. Jordyn Cornelison scored an 8-6 win over Heather Hunterson. Walker had the lone loss as she lost 9-8 (5) in tiebreaker to Abby Bergsten
In doubles, Kate Walker and Blomstedt defeated Abby and Ally Bergsten 8-4. Taylor and Behrens defeated Reynolds and Braquen 8-1.
Red Oak vs. Shenandoah
Red Oak faced Shenandoah last Tuesday, but lost both meets. The boys lost 8-1, while the girls lost 6-3.
The lone win for the boys came courtesy of Jesse Taylor, who won 3-6, 6-4 and 1-0 (7) over Garrett Clark.
For the girls, Walker defeated Hannah Dailey 8-2. Blomstedt defeated Heidi Fichter 8-4. In doubles, Taylor and LeRette defeated Jordan Major and Jordyn Lembrick 8-5.
Red Oak versus Glenwood
The Tigers split their matches with Glenwood. The girls won 6-3, while the boys lost 8-1.
In the girls’ meet, Walker started with an 8-3 win over Jana King. Blomstedt followed up with an 8-2 win versus Abby Osterloh. Taylor won 8-5 over Maggie Finnegan, while Behrens won 8-4 versus Ebbie Osterloh.
In doubles, Blomstedt and Taylor won 8-4 versus King and Ashley Hirt, while Walker and Behrens won 8-3 versus Finnegan and Osterloh.
The lone win for the boys came courtesy of Rolenc, who won 8-6 over Sam Lauritsen.
Red Oak will be back in action Tuesday when they take on Clarinda. The girls will be home, while the boys go on the road as it all begins at 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, the boys will be home and the girls on the road as they face Atlantic. The meet starts at 4:30 p.m.
Finally, the Red Oak boys team wraps up the week with the Atlantic Tournament Saturday at 9 a.m.
