Elmer Helm, 94

Elmer Adolph Helm, 94, Elliott, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the Accura Healthcare of Stanton.
Elmer was born Dec. 9, 1928, near Elliott, the son of Ernest and Lela (Christensen) Helm. In his elementary school years, he attended both Lincoln #1 Country School and Kemling School and eventually graduated from Elliott High School in 1948.
He met Doris Murphy in Elliott, and they were united in marriage on Feb. 19, 1949, in Des Moines.
Elmer farmed with his parents for a period of time and then worked at Greenbay Lumber from 1953 until 1956. He worked in the carpentry and construction business through the years for Emil Johnson, Helm Home Center and Construction, and Helm and Petry Construction.
He retired in 1992 after being self-employed for many years. His hobbies included playing cards with other couples, woodworking, camping, gardening, and watching football.
Preceding him in death were two infant sons, Thomas and Michael; parents; wife, Doris Helm on Jan. 30, 2021; brothers, LeRoy, Edwin and Sam Helm; sister, Inez Bundgard; and sons-in-law, Forrest Mahan and Greg Ebert.
Survivors include his daughters, Sue Mahan and husband John of Bellevue, Neb.; Betty Sellers and husband Jeff of Gretna, Neb.; Barb Mahan of Goodyear, Ariz.; and Linda Venditte and husband Mike of Maumelle, Ark.; grandchildren, Berry Mahan and wife Sara of Bellevue, Neb.; Kelly Williams and husband Braden of Bellevue, Neb.; Andy Mahan and wife Amber of Papillion, Neb.; Daniel Mahan and wife Sarah of Bellevue, Neb.; Jennifer Sellers and Joe Rind of Gretna, Neb.; Jason Sellers and wife Amy of Hickman, Neb.; Nicki Tudor of Alabama; Tom Mahan and Clarissa of Athens, Tenn.; Jeffrey Ebert and wife Heather of Eau Claire, Wis.; and Erika Ebert and Carolyn Turner of Cedar Rapids; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jane Helm of Villisca; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Elliott United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Elliott United Methodist Church.
