Viqueens 1-2 at Greene County Tournament

The Stanton volleyball team was 1-2 at the Greene County Tournament Saturday in Jefferson.
The Viqueens (12-15) picked up their win over Nodaway Valley 21-18, 21-3 and suffered losses to Van Meter 21-13, 21-9 and the host Rams, 21-5, 21-7
Stanton head coach John Mainquist said his team “showed great effort, determination, and teamwork throughout the day.”
“The girls continued to battle through every set, compete for every point, and support one another on and off the court,” the coach went on to say. “There were plenty of positive moments to build on, including strong rallies, aggressive serving, improved communication, and players stepping up when their team needed them. Every tournament provides opportunities to learn, grow, and get better, and the team will take those lessons into the next week of practice.”
Addison Jones led Stanton with seven kills on the day. Lauren Roberts added six kills.
Haylee Joint led the offense with 18 set assists.

Essex 11-18-14
Stanton picked up a 25-11, 25-18, 25-14 win over Essex in Corner Conference volleyball Thursday.
The Vikings hit .228 as a team with 32 kills in the victory. “We battled with energy and teamwork throughout the match, making key plays when it mattered most,” said Stanton coach John Mainquist. “The Viqueens’ strong effort at the net and consistent serving helped them secure the win and continue building momentum this season.”
Lauren Roberts led the way with six kills. Quinn McDonald and Addison Jones added five kills each.
Haylee Joint notched 13 assists and Gabi Grebin nine.
Viqueens split in Tabor
The Stanton volleyball team split a pair of Corner Conference volleyball matches in a triangular at Fremont-Mills High School in Tabor last Tuesday.
The Viqueens scored a 25-11, 25-20, 25-14 win over Hamburg and dropped a 25-21, 25-14, 25-22 match to the home Knights.
Stanton coach John Mainquist said he was proud of his team’s effort on the road.
“We came out ready to compete and picked up a win over Hamburg,” Mainquist said. “The girls showed great energy, teamwork, and determination throughout the match. We then faced a tough Fremont-Mills Knights team. Although we didn’t get the result we wanted, I was proud of the way our girls continued to battle and compete until the very end. There’s always something to learn and build on. We’ll take the lessons from tonight, keep working, and come back stronger.”
Against Hamburg, Lauren Roberts and Quinn McDonald led the attack with six kills each. Gabi Grebin led the way with 12 assists and four digs.
Leilanie Foster-Saye had five kills and Cooper Stephens three to lead the Viqueens against Fremont-Mills.
Haylee Joint dished up a team-high seven set assists and Gabi Grebin notched three digs.
