Trojans pick up first win at MAC Shootout

Essex picked up its first win of the season with a 55-52 victory over Heartland Christian Thursday at the Mid-America Shootout in Council Bluffs.
The Trojans pulled away in a back-and-forth game with a strong fourth quarter.
 “We were able to push the ball in transition and hit free throws in crunch time,” said Essex coach Ray Liles. “That was something we weren’t able to do on Tuesday at Fremont Mills.”
Wade Sholes paced Essex with 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
Isaiah Sholes added a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds.
Malachi Gray led Heartland Christian with 21 points. Josiah Gray added 14.

Murray 54,
Essex 36
Murray outscored Essex 38-16 over the second and third quarters to pull away for a 54-36 win in non-conference boys basketball last Monday.
AJ Clarke scored 15 points and Caden Page 14 to lead Murray.
Isaiah Sholes had a double-double with 20 points and 17 rebounds to lead Essex.
Wade Sholes added nine points and seven rebounds.
