Tigers win four medals at state track meet

Cale Hall and Emmanuel Grass won a pair of medals for Red Oak at the Iowa State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines.
Alburnett captured the Class 2A team title with 66 points to outpace runner-up Grundy Center with 56 points. Treynor was third with 39 points.
The Tigers tallied 15 points for 16th place.
Hall ran an 11.15 in the 100-meter preliminaries to qualify for the finals where he bettered that time to 11.01 to finish sixth in Class 2A. In the 200-meters, he added to his medal haul with a third-place time of 21.98.
Hall added a 20th place showing in the 400-meters.
Grass ran the 1,600 and 3,000-meters and as a part of the Tigers’ 4x800-meter relay in Des Moines. The junior opened his state meet in the 3,200-meter by running a personal-best 9:29.04 to finish fourth. Later that day, he helped the Tigers to ninth place finish in the 4x800. The quartet of Grass, Bryce Williams, Hayden Hietbrink and Reese Montgomery ran an 8:13.16 to just miss out on a medal.
Grass closed his state meet with another personal-best performance. He ran a 4:24.53 to finish eighth in the 1,600.
Montgomery was 12th and Hietbrink 22nd in the 800.
On the girl side, Pella Christian was the girls 2A champion with 78 points. Mid-Prairie was second with 68 points.
Red Oak’s Jocelyn O’Neal was a three-event qualifier at state.
The senior was 12th in the long with a top jump of 15 feet, 11 inches. She added a 21st place finish in the 400 and a 24th place showing in the 200-meters.
