Tigers sweep St. Albert in Hawk-10 duel

Strong pitching performances from Osiel Pedersen and Reese Montgomery helped Red Oak to a Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball sweep of Council Bluffs St. Albert last Tuesday at Legion Field in Red Oak.
Pedersen went the distance in the 4-2 game one victory, scattering seven hits and two runs while striking out six.
“He did a great job mixing up pitches and throwing strikes with multiple pitches,” said Red Oak coach Tristin Johnson. “The defense did a great job making plays behind him and scoring some runs at the plate.”
Masen Fisher and Dalton Ferree both singled, and Carson Roeder tripled to drive in another in the opener.
In the nightcap, Montgomery notched the complete game in a 6-1 victory. Montgomery gave up six hits and one run while fanning six.
Hudson Fisher, the Tigers’ number eight hitter, led the way in game two with a 2-for-2 night and an RBI. Ferree and Pedersen each drove in a run.
The Falcons’ Brek Gentile took the game one loss while Lance Betts was credited with the game two loss.

Panthers blank Tigers
Creston used a big second inning and a dominant pitching performance from Landyn Scherer to get by Red Oak 13-0 in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball last Thursday.
After a scoreless first inning, the Panthers (3-4) exploded for 10 runs and the Tigers (3-3) never recovered.
“We struggled getting going tonight,” said Red Oak coach Tristin Johnson. “Out of the gate we couldn’t get a hit and then when we got in the field just could throw a strike in the first inning. In the second inning we struggled making plays. Credit Creston, they hit the ball hard and found some gaps, but we struggled with some errors tonight. Unfortunately, that’s baseball some nights you struggle with certain aspects.”
Creston finished the game with nine hits but five of their runs were unearned thanks to three Tiger fielding errors.
Scherer held the Tigers hitless over five innings while striking out eight and walking just one.
Pace Chaillie started on the hill for the Tigers and took the loss after allowing three hits and five earned runs.
