Ceremony to kick off construction of law enforcement center
RED OAK — Ground will be formally broken on a $6.3 million law enforcement center Thursday in Red Oak.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center starts at 11 a.m. Thursday on the east side of the current Sheriff’s office at 106 W. Coolbaugh.
Board of Supervisor member Karen Blue will serve as master of ceremonies.
Thursday’s ceremony comes a few months shy of an August 2010 vote in which Montgomery County residents overwhelmingly supported a $5.9 bond issue funding the center. The 20-year property tax levy increase passed by nearly a 4-1 margin.
Oakview dck Construction received the $4.4 million bid to build the 24-bed facility, which includes the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, the E-911 communication center, and the Red Oak Police Department.
The remaining $1.9 million, which includes $423,000 from the City of Red Oak, will pay for additional “soft” costs, including equipment purchases and engineering expenses.
