Western Iowa Networks Expanding Fiber in Southwestern Mills County

Western Iowa Networks (WIN) was recently a recipient of a grant through the Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant Program through the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) which will aid in the construction of a fiber optic network in a large portion of Southwestern Mills County. Fiber optic services will now be available to over 250 homes and businesses in this mostly rural area labeled as “Glenwood South”. Construction of this network is planned to begin this summer with service installs beginning before the end of 2021. The addition of this area brings the current number of homes in Mills County where WIN fiber already passes or is currently being constructed to over 2,100.

“Many of the folks in this area are having to rely on their internet connection for educating their children or for their career and due to geographical and other challenges, have struggled to get a good wireless connection where they live or conduct their business. With the construction of this network, these folks will be able to have the advantages of living in the country but have a broadband connection with no limits.” says WIN CEO Jeff Roiland. “This connection will allow them to hold Zoom meetings, stream video, and much more without interruption.” Roiland adds.

Residents in any of the outlined areas can sign up for fiber optic services online at www.westianet.com or by calling or texting 712-775-2946. WIN representatives will also be available to sign customers up for services in-person from 12-6pm with a community meeting at 6:30pm on the following dates and locations:

Thursday, May 6th - Mineola Community Center

Thursday, May 13th - Silver City Community Building

Thursday, May 27th - Bodega Victoriana Winery

For those not within an outlined area, they can fill out the Fiber Interest form on WIN’s website so that they can have it on file for future fiber construction projects.
