Toys for Tots Montgomery County taking place now

With the goal of each child registered in Montgomery County getting at least one new toy at Christmas, various county businesses and agencies are once again sponsoring the Marine Toys for Tots program. The anticipated toy delivery date is Dec. 21.

Parent(s), grandparent(s) or the guardians of children can register a child for the program until Dec. 1. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is requested for verification purposes, as well as the child’s name as it appears on the birth certificate, date of birth, parent’s names and the telephone number of the person registering the child.

“No matter how you register, whether online or in person, the necessary information will need to be provided for each child you want to register, and then go through the screening process,” said Brad Baker of the Red Oak Police Department.

Children can be registered between the hours of 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fareway parking lot in Red Oak Nov. 30, where there will be a lighted fire truck and Santa. Masks are mandatory and social distancing urged. The main sign up will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at The Buck Snort Restaurant in Red Oak, located at 322 E. Coolbaugh St. Masks are mandatory and social distancing urged, with one individual being signed up at a time. No groups are allowed.

If unable to register on the listed dates, contact Red Oak Police Chief Justin Rhamy and he will assist in figuring out other means of getting a child signed up. Registration is also available online at toysfortots.org.

Toys are divided into three age group; 0 to 3 years old, non-gender specific; 4 to 8 years old male or female and 9 to 14 years old make or female. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at Red Oak Fareway, Montgomery County YMCA, Cubby’s, The Buck Snort, Mark Jackson’s Hardware Hank, Orscheln’s, HyVee and the Red Oak Police Department.
