Tigers finish eighth at rainy Ram Relays

 GLENWOOD — The Red Oak boys’ track and field team finished eighth out of 10 teams competing at the Ram Relays last Tuesday in Glenwood.

Red Oak recorded a team score of 41 points. Glenwood won the meet with 152 points, while Atlantic and Harlan were second and third. The Tigers finished ahead of both Abraham Lincoln and Creston.

The key highlight for Red Oak came in the 3,200-meter race when Josh Sunberg picked up his second victory of the season, running a time of 10:42.09 and beating runner-up Cuentin Gray of Glenwood by nearly 30 seconds. Teammate Ryan Dyson finished fifth with a time of 11:36.77.

Red Oak also had a close finish in the 1,600 when Logan LeRette finished second with a time of 4:50.61. LeRette finished behind Eldon Warner of Thomas Jefferson. Sunberg was seventh in the race as he ran a 5:10.72.

Red Oak had a medalist in the field events as Gabe Nelson took third in the high jump. Nelson had a jump of 5’8”.

The best relay finish for the Tigers came in the distance medley when the team of Hayden VanMeter, Brock Isaacson, Rob Vial and LeRette took fourth with a time of 4:06.08.

Red Oak finished fifth in the 4x100 when VanMeter, Dylan Graber, Eli Guerra and Isaacson ran a time of 47.75, nearly two seconds behind the winner of the race, Glenwood.

The 4x200 team of VanMeter, Vial, Graber and Isaacson took eighth with a time of 1:39.61.

The 4x800 team also picked up a point for Red Oak as the team of Connor Johnson, Nelson, Gil Cooper and Weston Rolenc finished ninth with a time of 10:08.05.
