RO bowling drops games to Cards

Red Oak bowling competed in Clarinda on Thursday, Dec. 16, dropping both games to the Cardinals.

Red Oak started the night off hot, taking a 41-pin lead after game one on the boys side. But the second game was a different story as Clarinda beat Red Oak by 366 pins, taking a 325 pin lead going into the Baker games. Clarinda continued on their hot streak, winning the Baker games by 362 pins and winning the meet 3,183-2,496.

Owen Johnson of Clarinda had the hig score of 296. He had a perfect game going and got a six on the last ball, according to Red Oak head bowling coach Michael Nordeen.

Jon Piper led Red Oak with a 399 series, while Kyle Berkey had the Tiger high game with a 214. 

Other Red Oak scores: Berkey 392; Jonah Wemhoff 331; Maddex McCunn 314; Ethan Kuipers 290; Hunter Jarrett 252.

Piper moved past Corbin Wolfe to take over eighth place in the Red Oak record book for total pins in a career. He is currently at 11,467 pins and is on pace to reach fourth all-time.

On the girls side, the Tigers fell 2,356-1,756. Red Oak Baker games total was 1,756.

“Both teams are still working hard in practice to improve their game,” Nordeen said. “With a young, inexperienced team, we are blessed with some great senior leadership. If we continue to grow as a team and get better everyday, we can hit our stride when conferences and districts start.”

Ally Johnson of Clarinda finished with the high game and high series of 221 and 352, respectively. The Tigers were led by Ashley Wilkins, who had a high game of 168 and high series of 305.

Other Red Oak scores: Kiley Riibe 235; Lizzy Baucom 230; Gracelynn Wagaman 204; Natalie Baucom 183; Ilana Johnson 144.

Red Oak bowling is back in action on Monday, Jan. 3, as they travel to Shenandoah for another conference show down.
