Sports Calendar: Tuesday, December 13
Here's a preview of all the sports action taking place on Tuesday.
Basketball Doubleheader: Stanton vs. Villisca @ Stanton High School- 6:15 p.m.
It's the first meeting of the season between both teams.
Girls
The Villisca Blue Jays have a very good opportunity to start the season 6-0, if they can get by Stanton Tuesday night. Villisca has won their games by an average of nearly 30 points per game thus far.
Amanda Focht, Jill Vanderhoof and Morganne Haer are all in the top 10 in scoring in the Corner Conference. Focht herself is averaging 16.8 PPG, second in the Corner Conference.
Stanton lost Monday night to the Corning Red Raiders, 69-40. The Viqueens have lost two straight and need a win over Villisca Tuesday night to keep from starting the season 1-4.
Boys
After losing a close game Monday night, Stanton looks to rebound Tuesday night with a win over Villisca. The Vikings lost 49-47 to Corning.
Greg Focht and Jeff Marshall scored 19 and 12 points respectively for Stanton. Brent Hanson had six points and 10 rebounds.
Villisca meanwhile needs a win to get back to .500 for the season. They lost Saturday night to the Essex Trojans, 49-45.
The Blue Jays won both meetings last season. Stanton last defeated Villisca on Feb. 5, 2010.
Both schools will be back in action on Friday night. Stanton hits the road Friday night to play for a doubleheader, while Villisca is home to play Nishnabotna.
Wrestling: Red Oak vs. Clarinda Academy vs. Riverside @ Red Oak High School- 6 p.m.
This will be Red Oak's first home meet this season. The Tiger's have started the season 2-2 and no doubt look to get wins Tuesday night.
Red Oak is fresh off a fifth place finish at the Central Decatur Tournament on Saturday.
Clarinda Academy has lost their first two meets thus far this season. In their most recent showing, they finished 11th at the Lenox Invite on Saturday.
Riverside meanwhile has started their season with a 2-3 record and a fourth place finish at the Riverside Tournament from Saturday.
Red Oak will be in action Saturday when they compete in the Shenandoah Duals.
Bowling: Red Oak vs. Lewis Central @ Thunderbowl in Council Bluffs- 3:30 p.m.
The Red Oak bowling teams look to continue their early season success as they travel to the Thunderbowl to face Lewis Central.
Red Oak has won their first two meets thus far this season. Last Friday, both Red Oak teams won team titles at the Holiday Tournament.
Thomas Jacobs will lead the Lewis Central attack. Jacobs averages a 459 series and has already bowled a 300 once this season.
This will be Red Oak's last match before they go on the Holiday break.
Boys Basketball: Essex vs. South Page @ South Page High School- 7:30 p.m.
The Trojans look for two in a row Tuesday night when they play the Rebels.
Essex defeated Villisca on Saturday night, 49-45.
South Page meanwhile looks to avoid losing their third straight game. The Rebels are 2-4 to start the season.
Basketball Doubleheader: Griswold vs. Audubon @ Griswold High School- 6:15 p.m.
The Griswold girls are in search for their first win of the season. They will play an Audubon team that has won their last two games.
For Griswold's boys, a win Tuesday night would give them their third in the last four games.
Basketball Doubleheader: East Mills vs. Fremont-Mills @ East Mills High School- 6:15 p.m.
The Fremont-Mills boys team looks to hand East Mills their first loss of the season Tuesday night.
The East Mills girls meanwhile hope to put an end to Fremont-Mills' two game winning streak.
