Southwest Valley hits the road to end season
Southwest Valley girl’s basketball team ended its season at the hands of Interstate 35 in Truro Tuesday, dropping the game 57-40.
While it wasn’t the victory the team hoped for, the score was a move in the right direction.
“We played this same team a couple of weeks ago and lost 42-21,” said head coach Allen Naugle.
“We were able to do a much better job offensively tonight.”
I-35 was able to get out to a quick lead and had a dominant defensive second quarter, outscoring Southwest Valley 12-3 and taking a 31-14 lead into the half.
The Lady Timberwolves were led in scoring by Morgan Shuey, who had 12, with no one else able to go over the 10-point mark.
“The girls gave great effort throughout the game and never gave up,” Naugle said.
“They definitely played hard the entire game and fought until the end.”
Naugle said he was, however, disappointed in other aspects of the game.
Southwest Valley had 21 turnovers and often failed to get the ball when the I-35 Roadrunners missed their shots.
“We did struggle at times to get defensive rebounds and limit their second chances,” Naugle said.
Southwest Valley still ends the season having won a district game.
Naugle said he was encouraged by the teams’ gains over the season.
“I am very proud of how much improvement these girls showed throughout the entire season,” he said.
“They did a great job of working hard every day, and it definitely showed.”
Southwest Valley ended the season with an 8-14 record.
