Runners hit their strides in Turkey Trot

 

RED OAK — Two men and a woman hit their stride Nov. 27 in the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot.

Jon Sturm of Shenandoah was the overall winner in the 5-mile run, while Alden Wignall of Glenwood and Allison Young of Elliott topped the 2-mile race.

The event was sponsored by the Fareway and Hy-Vee food stores in Red Oak, which donated gift cards and certificates to first-place winners in the different age divisions of the races.

The Montgomery County Family YMCA hosted the event.

Runners chalking up wins were:

2-mile

• Girls and women — Claire Campbell of Shenandoah, younger than 12; Allison Young of Elliott, ages 13-18; Haleigh Gee of Cedar Rapids, 19-29; Angie Roland of Omaha, Neb., 30-39; Sandy Hansen of Shenandoah, 40-49; and Marian Hoffman of Henderson, 50-59.

• Boys and men — Elijah Bix of Coin, younger than 12; Austin Haynes of Griswold, 13-18; Alden Wignall of Glenwood, 19-29; Nathan Maeder of Novinger, Mo., 30-39; Tim Osterhold of Little Rock, Ark., 40-49; Jon Young of Elliott, 50-29; and Fred Hildrebrandt of Griswold, 60 and older.

5-mile

• Girls and women — Madison Waymire of Grimes, younger than 12; Andrea Kordick of Papillion, Neb., 13-18; Stacey Roberts of Ames, 19-29; Jenn Sands of Clarinda, 30-39; Kathie Madron of Oakland, 40-49; Karin Hoffman of Red Oak, 50-59; and Paula Odefey of Red Oak, 60 and older.

• Boys and men — Jon Sturm of Shenandoah, 13-18; Seth Schooley of Clay Center, Kan., 19-29; Mike Mullns of Ames, 30-39; Mark Hull of Clarinda, 40-49; Lou Soukup of Beaver Lake, Neb., 50-59; and Mike Pattavina of Clarinda, 60 and older.

YMCA officials credited several volunteers for making the event a success.
