Returning the volley

RED OAK — The Red Oak Tigers boys’ tennis team defeated the Corning Red Raiders, 9-0, to win their second straight meet Thursday.

The meet was suppose to take place in Corning, but due to the weather, was moved to the indoor tennis courts at the Montgomery County YMCA.

All of the matches were played to a first eight.

Top-seed Pete Walker led the Tigers with an 8-0 win over Cole Shafer.
Craig White kept the lead going for Red Oak when he defeated Connor Thibodeaux, 8-0.

Matt Goracke was the only Red Oak tennis athlete to give up a game, however, he still won 8-1 over Wyatt Henkenius.

Jordan Nelson defeated Brian Roberts 8-0. Dixon Nelson also won 8-0, doing so against Jordan Drake.

Dakota White clinched the shutout in varsity singles with an 8-0 win over Ricky Cornelison.

In varsity doubles, the team of Walker and Jordan Nelson defeated Shafer and Thibadeaux, 8-1.

The White team won 8-1 over Henkenius and Joeyiz Shires.

Goracke and Austin Streicher closed the match with an 8-0 victory over Roberts and Drake.

Red Oak defeated Audubon 9-0.

All of the matches were a first to 10.

Walker defeated Caleb Rasmussen 10-1. Craig White defeated Jacob Weber 10-0.

Goracke defeated Kolton Jensen 10-3, while Jordan Nelson won over Rile Jensen, 10-2.

Dakota White took care of Ferenc Teuber, 10-1.

Dixon Nelson battled Heath Irlmeier, but Nelson came out on top, 11-9.

In varsity doubles, the team of Walker and Jordan Nelson defeated Weber and Irlmeier, 10-2.

That was the same score when the White’s defeated Rasmussen and Teuber.

Goracke and Dixon Nelson shut out the Jensen’s, 10-0.

Red Oak lost their season opener, last Monday against Kuemper Catholic in Carroll, 5-4.

The Tigers had won only two of the six varsity singles matches.
Red Oak is now 2-1 to start the season.

The Tigers will be home this week as they face Shenandoah on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and Lewis Central Thursday at 4 p.m.
