Red Oak Chamber and Industry Association urging residents to spend $11 on 1-11-11

RED OAK — In an effort to jumpstart the local economy during a traditionally slow period, the Red Oak Chamber and Industry Association is encouraging residents and businesses to participate in a “Spend $11 on 1-11-11 in Red Oak” promotion.
Chamber Specialist Jodie Smith said the idea is a simple one.
“We want to encourage everyone to spend $11 on 1-11-11 (Tuesday),” Smith said. “Everyone who spends their $11 will receive a sticker similar to what is handed out when they vote. These stickers will state ‘I spent my $11.’”
To help encourage extra shopping, the Chamber will also be distributing stickers that state “Did you spend your $11” for participating business employees to wear.
Smith also urges businesses to take advantage of the opportunity with some creative promotions.
“These can be as simple as $11 specials, $11 discounts, $11 items, 11 percent off a purchase, 11 items at $11 each, or $11 food and drink specials,” Smith said. “Another idea would be to consider extended hours on the 11th. Open early, stay open late. Remember, we want to jump start the economy for 2011.”
Any business with $11 specials/promotions or with extended hours is encouraged to contact Smith at the Chamber (623-4821) so it can be promoted through this week.
