ACCIDENTS
• On February 20, at 8:20 a.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s office received a report of an accident involving a Montgomery County Secondary Roads dump truck ¼ mile east of G Avenue on 510th Street. According to the report, the driver was clearing snow from the north shoulder of the road and got too near the edge, causing the front tire to go into the ditch and the truck to tip over, coming to rest on the passenger side. The snow prevented any significant damage to the truck. There were no injuries, and damages to the truck are estimated at less than $1,000.
• On Feb. 24, at 11:14 a.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a single-vehicle accident on Highway 71 just south of the 29 mile marker. Malvin Zimmerman, 84, Ochelata, Oklahoma, driving a 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 pick-up owned by Barbara Shew, Council Bluffs, who was a passenger, was traveling north on Highway 71 and, due to ice and snow-packed condition of the road, lost traction and skidded across the highway and came to rest in the west ditch. This caused the horse trailer the vehicle was pulling to jackknife and block the southbound lane of traffic. Damage to the pick-up was about $4,500 and there were no injuries. There were no citations issued.
• On Feb. 24, at 2:08 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a one-vehicle accident just north of High Street and Highway 71. Samuel Barkley, 20, Cumberland, driving a 2002 Chevrolet K2500 pick-up owned by Robert Barkley, Cumberland, was traveling north on Highway 71 and had slowed for a vehicle turning onto High Street. After the other vehicle had turned, Barkley began to accelerate and lost control of the vehicle, which entered the east ditch, rolled, and came to rest on tis top. Barkley was not injured and no citations were issued. No information on damages was available.
• On Feb. 24, at 3:20 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a one-vehicle accident in the area of A Avenue and Highway 34. Tobias Luna, Omaha, driving a 2005 GMC Sierra pick-up, was traveling east on Highway 34 when he hit a patch of ice and lost control of the vehicle, which went into the north ditch and landed on the driver’s side. There were no injuries and Luna was cited for no valid driver’s license.
