Pursuits lead to two arrests
Two people were arrested in separate incidents last week.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, on Sept. 20 at around 4:30 p.m., authorities attempted to stop a 2008 Kawasaki EX 650, operated by Zachery Wayne Coddington, 26, of Red Oak, for a speeding violation at the 29 mile marker of Highway 34.
A pursuit ensued with speeds reaching in excess of 120 mph near the intersection of Highway 34 and E Avenue. Coddington attempted to turn southbound onto Highway 48 and lost control, entering the east ditch, where he was ejected off of the bike. Coddington was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported at the time of the release. Coddington was charged with eluding, no valid driver’s license, and speeding. He was taken to the Montgomery County jail on $2,000 bond.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Red Oak Police and Red Oak Rescue.
On Sept. 21, deputies attempted to stop a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse at the intersection of Highway 71 and 235th Street. The vehicle fled from the stop, leading deputies on a pursuit southbound on Highway 71 at speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The pursuit came to an end on Montgomery-Page Street, west of Highway 71, when the vehicle attempted to flee down a dirt road and slid into the ditch. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot, ignoring deputies’ orders to stop. A Montgomery County K-9 was deployed and apprehended the fleeing suspect in a field. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect is identified as James Robert Castillo, 25, of Bedford. Castillo was charged with felony eluding, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, and interference with official acts. Castillo was also cited for speeding, driving while license suspended, no insurance, operation without registration, fraudulent registration, and a stop sign violation.
