Kenneth "Kenny" Peterson , 74

Kenneth Lyle “Kenny” Peterson, 74, Griswold, formerly of Elliott, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, at Accura Health Care in Stanton.
Kenny was born Aug. 29, 1948, in Red Oak, the son of Kenneth Milton and Helen Ruth (Mason) Peterson. He was raised on the farm near Stennett and attended the Elliott United Methodist Church with his family.
Kenny graduated from Griswold High School in 1966 and served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. Kenny married Jan Bishop in Germantown, Md. on Aug. 2, 1969. Kenny and Jan moved to Red Oak in 1971 and then to an acreage near Elliott in 1975. Throughout the years, Kenny worked at Eveready Battery in Red Oak, Glacier in Atlantic, and Eaton’s in Shenandoah. Kenny earned a four-year degree in Business from Buena Vista University in 1990.
In 2018, Kenny and Jan moved to Griswold. Kenny enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping. He also liked to golf, play softball, ride horses and motorcycles, and sing. In his younger years, Kenny was a 4-H member and a member of the Red Oak Jaycees. Currently, he was a member of the NRA, American Legion and the Central Church of Christ in Griswold. Many will remember Kenny as a jokester, being able to strike up a conversation with anybody and everybody, and the love he had for his family and dogs.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Kenneth and Ruth Peterson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jesse and Renee Bishop; son-in-law, Cory Luft; brother-in-law, Bill Sellars; and sisters-in-law, Janet Bishop and Marsha Peterson.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Peterson of Griswold; children, Kenneth “Shawn” Peterson and wife Cheri of Spirit Lake; Holly Luft of Red Oak; Becky Treasure and husband Matt of Lincoln, Neb.; grandchildren, Ashley Peterson and Kayla Peterson of Spirit Lake; Cloey Luft of Lincoln, Neb.; Zander Luft, Paige Luft and Maddox Luft all of Red Oak; Elayna Treasure and Dayson Treasure of Lincoln, Neb.; siblings, Carolyn Sellars and husband John Vladyka of Kernersville, N.C.; Sharon Solberg and husband Jerry, Daniel Peterson and Timothy Peterson all of Red Oak; brothers-in-law, Larry Bishop and wife Helen of Frederick, Md.; and Alan Bishop of Greenwood, S.C.; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold. Burial will be at a later date in the Gomer Cemetery near Wales.
