Kathleen "Kathy" Barmann, 77

Kathleen Reta “Kathy” (Tebrinke) Barmann, 77, Red Oak, died peacefully at her home following a lengthy illness.
Kathy was born July 22, 1946, in Sterling, Colo., the daughter of Bernice “Bud” and Vera Emily (McHenry) Tebrinke.  She lived near Stoneham, Colo., as an infant, and the family lived in a sod house for a short time.  Kathy moved to Red Oak after her father died when she was two years old.  She graduated in 1964 from Red Oak High School and enjoyed many class reunions.
Over the years, Kathy had a modeling career and was also a professional singer.  She was employed for many years as a front-desk receptionist at the Red Oak Holiday Inn, which later became the Red Coach Inn.
Kathy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Larry Barmann, on Aug. 17, 1996.  They enjoyed traveling to places throughout the continental U.S., especially Cape Cod, Mass., as well as Hawaii, France, Germany, Ireland, and England. They found the winter home of their dreams in Melbourne Beach, Fla. in 2014.  They spent several winters there before Kathy was unable to travel.  Together, they enjoyed the ocean, viewing rocket launches, and spending time with their children and grandchildren when they visited.
Kathy loved being outdoors, camping, biking on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail and photography.  A long-time member of the All Angels Episcopal Church in Red Oak, Kathy had a deep faith in God and demonstrated this in her kindness to family, friends, strangers, and rescue animals.
Kathy had a love for theater.  She had many roles in Red Oak Community Theater productions including “Crimes of The Heart,” “Plaza Suite,” “A Terrible Stillness,” and “Moon Over Buffalo.”  She also directed “Best Little Whore House in Texas” and assisted Larry Brandstetter with Red Oak Middle School plays.
Kathy loved genealogy and was a member of the Alden Kindred of America and the Mayflower Society.  She was a descendant of passengers John and Priscilla Alden and a direct descendant of James McHenry, a founding father of America who was a member of the Constitutional Convention and served as Secretary of War under both George Washington and John Adams.  Her family’s historical roots inspired her love of history, and she became an avid genealogist, traveling to cemeteries from Red Oak, Iowa to Antrim, Ireland, and everywhere in between to find her ancestors.
Preceding her in death were her parents; mother-in-law, Margaret Barmann; father-in-law,  Lawrence Barmann; sister,  Bernice Dean; brothers,  Richard Tebrinke and John Tebrinke; brother-in-law,  Marvin Requist; sister-in-law,  Nan Tebrinke; and son-in-law,  Russell Rauba.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Barmann of Red Oak; sister,  Barbara Requist of Stanton; children, Christina Rauba of Jefferson City, Mo.; Mark Barmann (Krista) of St. Louis, Mo.; and Angie Britten of Red Oak; grandchildren, Lauren Rauba, Jasmine Barmann, Brogan Barmann, Conor Britten, and Caitlin Britten; step-grandchildren, Scott Rauba, Nicole Rauba, and Ryan Rauba; brother-in-law, Daniel Dean; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Tebrinke; Ann Edwards (Bob); Kathy Robbins (Mark); and Sue Buchanan (Rick); many nieces, nephews, and her beloved dogs, Miss Molly and Murphy.
The family would like to thank Sandra Miller of Key Home Care and her dedicated staff, especially long-time caregivers, Beth Bell-Flowers, Rhonda Bowers, and Linda Roof.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel at 1995 G Ave., Red Oak.  Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.  Kathy had a motto, “No Empty Tummies,” so please direct memorials in Kathy’s name to your local food pantry or animal shelter.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
