Joan Garnatz, 82
Joan Elaine Garnatz, 82, Clarinda, formerly Red Oak, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the Clarinda Regional Hospital.
Joan was born Aug. 30, 1940, near Nodaway, the daughter of Ralph Wayne and Florence Elizabeth (Morhain) Smith. She was raised in the Nodaway area, graduating from the Villisca High School in 1958.
She was united in marriage to Lyle Myers on May 30, 1958. They made their home in Red Oak. Over the years, Joan worked for Red Oak Greenhouses, Thos. D. Murphy Co., and Phoenix Promotional Products.
Joan was united in marriage to Stephen Garnatz on April 1, 1995, in Red Oak. They lived in Red Oak until moving to Clarinda about six years ago. Joan was a member of the 15-20 year club at Thos. D. Murphy Co. Her hobbies include watching NASCAR, traveling, collecting antiques, country music, and spending time with her grandkids.
Preceding her in death were three infant children, Danny, Debra, and Brian Myers; parents; and brothers, Glen, Wayne, Gary, and Donnie Smith.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen Garnatz of Clarinda; children, Rick Myers and wife Amy of Red Oak; Cindy Rolenc and husband Scott of Red Oak; Jason Garnatz of Ankeny; Charlotte Naylor and husband David of Casper, Wyo.; and Andrew Garnatz of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Amanda Myers and Ken Miller of Red Oak; Maranda Myers and Phil Pfeiffer of Red Oak; Nicholas Rolenc of Council Bluffs; Jennifer Roberts and husband Jason of Council Bluffs; Mysti Rolenc of Council Bluffs; John Garnatz of Ankeny; Alexis Garnatz of Kansas City, Mo.; Riley Naylor of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Lexi Naylor of Salt Lake City, Utah; honorary grandson, Caleb Campbell; great-grandchildren, Dallas Radcliff, Leon Pfeiffer, Alex Rolenc and Ricky Meloccaro, Ava Rolenc, Leah Roberts, and Stella Roberts; great-great-grandchildren, Ritchie Meloccaro and Sterling Meloccaro; sisters, Joyce Marasco of Omaha, Neb.; Judy Snipes and husband Bill of Council Bluffs; Jolene Geske and husband Doug of Council Bluffs; Jeanne Stull and husband Martin of Clarinda; Jeri Goodkind of Boulder City, Nev.; and Jackie Lininger and husband Galen of New Market; brother, Dennis Smith of Red Oak; brother-in-law, Warren Garnatz and wife Marinell of Omaha, Neb.; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
