Eunice Culbertson, 87

Eunice Knop Culbertson, 87, Red Oak, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, at Griswold Care Center in Griswold.
Eunice was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Mills County, the daughter of Walter and Helene (Seipold) Knop. She was raised in Mills County, and graduated from Emerson High School in 1954. Eunice moved to Red Oak in 1959, was married, and later divorced. Three children were born to this union, Laura, Scott, and Troy.
She worked various jobs during her lifetime including Emerson State Bank, Montgomery County Clerk of Court as Deputy, Viner’s Accounting, Nishna Sanitary Service, Red Oak Elks Lodge as Manager, and retired from CDS. In 1982, Eunice was the first woman selected as an honorary fireman for the Red Oak Fire Department. The fire department was very special to her.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors include her children, Laura Ward (Howard); Scott Culbertson (Robin); and Troy Culbertson; grandchildren, Melanie Wake (Zach); Ashley Hertensen (Dustin); Valerie Parrott (Calder); Seth Ward (Ashley); Zach Ward (Amanda); Olivia Swagel (Gustin); and Carlee Culbertson and fiancé Luke Brockshus; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Glen Knop and wife Diana and Vern Knop and wife Donna; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends including many special “children,” “grandchildren,” and members of the Red Oak Fire Department.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, at the new location of Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel at 1995 G Ave. in Red Oak.
