Delaine Donohue, 92
Delaine Russell Donohue, 92, passed peacefully from this life on March 31, 2023, in Sun City West, Ariz.
Delaine Donohue was born into this life on March 1, 1931, in Red Oak. The eldest of two children of the late Donald and Margaret Bond Donohue, Delaine grew up on a farm, eventually moving to town where he attended and graduated from Red Oak High School. After graduation, he served in the military as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954.
On May 5, 1957, he married Dorothy, his beloved wife of 65 years. Their first home was in Council Bluffs, where Delaine began a long and successful career in 1957 with Dun and Bradstreet located in Omaha, Neb.
While working in Omaha, Delaine earned his B.A. in Business by attending school at night at the University of Nebraska. Delaine began at Dun and Bradstreet as an account representative, and was recognized and rewarded with promotions throughout his career that spanned management positions from New York, California, Colorado, and New Jersey, to Pennsylvania, retiring in 1988 as a Senior Vice President.
After retiring, Delaine and Dorothy lived part of the year in Council Bluffs and part of the year in Sun City West, Ariz. They moved on a full-time basis to Sun City West in 2000. Delaine stayed busy with his daily three-mile walk, golf, and serving on various boards including Benevilla and Arizona Broadway Theatre. Delaine and Dorothy were members of Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
Delaine is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dahlstrom Donohue; his children, Deborah Saul (Jacque) of Amelia Island, Fla.; and Rebecca Ingram (Duane) of Lafayette, Calif. He also leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Mary Donohue of Red Oak. Delaine will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Julia (Danny), Christina, Colleen (Alex), Angela (Keith), Jesse (Corrie), Tracy (Matt) and Rachel; and eight great-grandchildren.
Of all his life achievements, he said that he was most proud of his family. As a person of great conviction and discipline, Delaine Donohue lived his life as a true and faithful servant of God, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Delaine Donohue’s life was a life well lived.
A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak.
