Majerus signs with Graceland for bowling

RED OAK — After much consideration, Red Oak athlete Shane Majerus will be competing in bowling for the Graceland Yellowjackets next season.

Majerus made it official when he signed his letter of intent last Monday at Red Oak High School.

In addition to Graceland, Majerus also considered Morningside College in Sioux City and Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. Majerus will get a scholarship from Graceland, which is located in Lamoni.

Majerus, who also competed in football and track for Red Oak, has been one of the top bowlers the Tigers for the past couple of seasons.

Majerus was one of the varsity bowlers who helped lead Red Oak to two top four finishes, including runner-up last season. This season, Majerus was the top individual at the state qualifying meet in February. He placed outside the top 20 at state, bowling a 372 series.

In addition to being a full-time college student, Majerus will also enter basic training later this year.

Majerus is currently a Private First Class in the Iowa National Guard.

Graceland is currently coached by Doug Zimmerman, who just completed his second season at the program as both the men’s and women’s bowling coach.

The Yellowjackets play in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, which is part of NAIA.

The conference includes Peru State University, Missouri Valley College and Baker University, as well as new members Clarke College and Mount Mercy.
