Iowa State Patrol investigating fatal pedestrian accident in RO

A fatal pedestrian accident is currently being investigated by the Iowa State Patrol.
 

The Iowa State Patrol has released additional information rergarding the fatal pedestrian accident which took place in Red Oak Jan. 10, According to the Iowa State Patrol's preliminary crash report, Red Oak Police officer Reesce Anderson, 22, Red Oak, was responding to Acorn Acres for a fire call with lights and sirens activated.

 

The vehicle was northbound on North Broadway Street near the intersection of Joy Street when, according to the ISP report, Vana Marie Redd ran into the roadway and was struck by Anderson's police vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Durango. Redd sustained fatal injuries from the impact.

 

In an email sent our by the Red Oak Community School District, officials said Redd was a sixth grader in the district, in Mrs. Cockburn's class. Also, the district said it was providing grief counselors and members of the school's counseling team to meet with students individually, or in groups over the next few days and weeks. Superintendent Ron Lorenz said the district will do everything it can to provide support to parents and families, and they can also contact the building principals, counselors, or Lorenz himself if they have questions or concerns.

The accident remains under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol is being assisted in the investigation by the Red Oak Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and the Red Oak Fire Department.
