Elliott’s Turner to be inducted into aviation Hall of Fame

On Aug. 27, the Iowa Aviation Museum 29th Annual Wings Fly-In/Drive-In and the Hall of Fame Induction for 2022 will be held at the museum in Greenfield.
A pancake breakfast will be served by the Fontanelle Lions Club from 7:30 to 10 a.m.  Price of the breakfast, which includes admission to the museum, is $8 for adults and children under 5 are free.
Immediately following the breakfast, Connie Rex Younger and Nicholas A. Turner will be inducted into the Iowa Aviation Hall of Fame. Turner is an Elliott native and retired Marine Corps Colonel and helicopter pilot who learned the ropes about flying while assisting his father, Larry Turner, in his helicopter business, Turner Copter Services Inc.
The younger Turner flew in Iraq and Afghanistan and was a pilot for President Barack Obama during his second term.
Turner joins his father, Larry, a 2020 Hall of Fame recipient who was inducted in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview in April, Turner said that finding out this year that he would be joining his father in the hall of fame this year was not only a shock, but humbling.
“I’m still questioning whether or not I’m worthy of such an honor. I don’t feel that I have the resume of some of the other guys that are in that hall of fame, and careers spanning 50 years. But it’s a great honor to be considered for it and be put on the wall with those guys. Humbled, I think, is the best way to describe how I feel about it,” stated Turner.
