Council agrees to modify public hours at city hall

The Red Oak Council City Council has approved a temporary change to the hours Red Oak City Hall is open to the public.  
Red Oak Mayor Shawnna Silvus proposed setting public hours from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., allowing staff more time to work.
“We have several staff who come in at 6 a.m. and don’t leave until 8 p.m. on a Friday, and then work half of Saturday and Sunday. I think that it’s because we get so many interruptions during the day. I think opening an hour later would benefit the staff, as it’s less busy in the early morning hours than it is over lunch or at the end of the day,” Silvius said. “This will give them a little bit more time to do their daily work and get things done. Over one weekend, we had a staff member and her husband working all day on a Sunday.”
Bills agreed that the city hall staff were working extended hours.
“I see people on our staff in the morning and night on the weekend, and during the week. It’s a very dedicated staff,” Bills said. “I’ve never been in that office when that staff wasn’t working on something.
Silvius wasn’t suggesting the change be permanent.
“I think we should try this schedule out for a couple months, and we can always change it back. I think they will really benefit from this extra time,” commented Silvius.
The council unanimously approved the modification of public hours. The change takes effect beginning Monday, July 24.
