Landfill association sponsoring hazardous waste cleanup day

A hazardous waste cleanup day is planned for area residents from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 7.

Donna Robinson, secretary/treasurer of the Montgomery County Landfill Association, said the association is sponsoring a household hazardous waste and electronic collection day on that day. She added in the past, they have been done in alternate years.

The reason, she continued, was that in prior years, the clean up events were handled by two separate companies. This year they were able to switch up the format and use one company for both services.

“Brad Wright found out that one of the compa¬nies that we have used in the past, Clean Harbors Environmental Services, who does the household hazardous waste also has now started doing elec¬tronics collection, so we can combine them into one event,” commented Robinson.

The event will be held at the Red Oak High School football field parking lot, and there are some stipulations.

“They are wanting everyone to enter on Fourth Street, rather than from Broadway, as it has been done in the past. Red Oak Clean Up, which is ROCU, and the Red Oak Rotary will both be help¬ing us out to a certain point that day with traffic.”

Among the items accepted are: aerosol cans; rust remover; fungicide brush killer liquid; furniture polish; mothballs; insect spray; pool chemicals; rat, mouse, and gopher poison; drain, oven, and solvent cleaners; spot remover and floor care products; acids/bases; auto polish and car wax; auto starter fluid; brake fluid; and carburetor cleaner; adhesives, epoxy, and glue; flammables including gasoline, kerosene, and lighter fluid; straight and compact fluorescent bulbs; computers; CPU’s; keyboards, laptops, and monitors.
