Vikings blank Tigers in district opener


Stanton plated all of its runs in the fourth inning and Gavin Ford tossed a complete-game shutout on the mound in a 4-0 victory over Griswold in the Class 1A, District 13 first round in Audubon Saturday.
Ford was dominant on the mound, scattering six hits and striking out 11 without surrendering a walk.
Jacob Martin singled and drove in two runs, and Nolan Case and Owen Marsh each notched hits and drove in runs for the Vikings.
Calden Turner took the loss on the mound for Griswold. The junior allowed two hits, two earned runs and struck out six in four innings of work.

Bode Wyman led the Tigers with two hits.
With the win, Stanton moved on to face No. 5 seeded Martensdale St. Marys (21-3) in last evening’s district semifinals. Complete coverage will appear in the next Red Oak Express.

Macklin Loftus scattered two hits and struck out six for Logan-Magnolia in an 11-1 win over Stanton in non-conference baseball Thursday.
Drake Geith and Brodie Davis each drove in two runs for the Panthers.
Tristan Elwood was credited with the loss on the mound for Stanton. The eighth grader allowed three hits and four earned runs while striking out two.
Devon Taylor and Owen Marsh each recorded hits for the Vikings.

Brody King scattered five hits and struck out nine for Bedford in a 16-1 win over Stanton in Corner Conference baseball last Tuesday.
Garrison Motsinger and Tim Rogers each collected two hits and three RBIs.
Gavin Ford took the loss for the Vikings after allowing five hits and five earned runs in four innings of work.
Devon Taylor, Tristan Elwood, Gavin Ford and Owen Marsh had one hit each.

Sidney 3
Bode Wyman and Kolbe Klindt combined to allow three hits and strike out 13 for Griswold in a 10-3 win over Sidney in Corner Conference baseball last Tuesday.
Klindt picked up the victory on the mound after tossing three innings and allowing three hits.
Wyatt Silk had two hits and Klindt and Wyman both doubled and drove in two runs each.

Stanton used a six run second inning to pull away from Sidney in a 13-6 victory in Corner Conference baseball last Monday.
Tristan Elwood, Nolan Case and Owen Marsh drove in two runs each for the Vikings.
Nolan Case was credited with the win on the mound after allowing two hits and striking out three in 3 2/3 innings of work.
Isaac Hutt took the loss for the Cowboys.
Kolt Payne, Sidney and Michael Hensley had two hits each.

Essex 2
Griswold led 13-1 after an inning and cruised to a 27-2 win over Essex in Corner Conference baseball last Monday.
Brayden Lockwood doubled twice and drove in two runs and Bode Wyman hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead Griswold. Wyatt Silk doubled and drove in four runs.
Alex Nelson picked up the win on the hill after allowing one earned run and striking out six.
