Timberwolves eighth, sixth at Lenox meet

Southwest Valley traveled to the Lenox Co-ed Track and Field Meet on Monday.
The Timberwolves girls set new school records on the way to scoring 45 points and finishing in eighth place overall. The boys team set one new school record while finishing in sixth place overall with 51 points.
Mount Ayr won the girls title with 142 points while Riverside won the boys meet scoring 149 points.
On the girls side, the Timberwolves’ Saige Jones broke her own school record in the 800-meters, taking second place in a time of 2:36.99.
The distance medley girls broke the school record set earlier this season with Alyssa Pearson, Joslynn Benge, Anistyn Poston and Jones with a new time of 4:51.77 to finish in third place.
Other medalists for the girls included Ray Helvie with a second place in high jump, Pearson was third in the 400-meter hurdles, and the 4x100 relay grabbed a fourth place medal in 56.10 with Hailey Randall, Mailee Templeton, Kayleigh Larson and Poston.
“The girls did a great job tonight in the windy conditions,” said Southwest Valley coach Jason Hults. “Getting the two new records was great, and we hope to continue to see those times getting faster as we move into the middle of our season.
Stanton was fourth in the girls standings with 70 points.
Leilanie Foster-Saye led the Viqueens with a win in the high jump and a pair of third place finishes in the 100-meters and 200-meters.
The East Mills girls were sixth with 57 points. The Wolverines’ won the 4x200-meter relay and Ellie Hagen added a second place medal in the 100-meters.
On the boys side, the field events continue to be a strength for the Timberwolves with two first place finishes and a new record.
Caleb Owen won the shot put, improving his school record to 48-9.75, and Brody Crozier won the long jump with a leap of 20-3.75.
Crozier added a pair of second place finishes in the 100-meters and the 400. The boys had 2 relays add 4th place medals; the 4x800 relay with Ben Waddell, Gunnar Lenz, Lucas James, and Brayton Bruce in a time of 11:13.10, and the distance medley relay with Jackson Fisher, Hudson Bissell, Wadell, and Lenz in a time of 4:26.14.
East Mills was seventh at Lenox and Griswold eighth.
The Wolverines were led by Jiri Brodigan’s second place in the 200-meters and third place in the 100-meters.
Owen Johnson was second on the long jump to pace Griswold.
Stanton finished ninth at the meet with Brodee Sowers taking second in the discus with a top throw of 135’ 1’.
