Southwest Valley 82,
Griswold 36
Southwest Valley’s smothering defense and a big night from Alex Morgan were too much for Griswold in the Timberwolves’ 82-36 win Thursday in Villisca.
Morgan poured in a game-high 27 points and pulled down 21 rebounds to lead the way for Southwest Valley. Cael Hogan added 15 points and Wyatt Mendenhall 11.
Defensively, the Timberwolves held the Tigers to 36.8 percent shooting – 14-of-38 – while forcing 30 turnovers and holding a 35 to 19 rebounding edge.
Zane Johnson led Griswold with 12 points.
Southwest Valley 67,
East Union 25
Southwest Valley opened the game on a 27-10 run and never looked back in a 67-25 victory over East Union in Pride of Iowa Conference boys basketball last Tuesday.
“We were able to get out and press early and get steals that lead to transition points,” said Southwest Valley coach Kyle Bashor. “From there the offense did a good job moving the ball and getting good looks inside and out. Overall, a good start and hope to build off the first time out.”
Alex Morgan scored 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Timberwolves.
Cael Hogan scored 15 points and dished out six assists and Wyatt Mendenhall added 10 points.
Jase Pettit scored 14 points to lead East Union.
