Tigers win Glenwood Invitational with perfect 6-0 day

The Red Oak volleyball team’s red hot start to the season continued on Saturday with an undefeated 6-0 record and the team title at the Glenwood Invitational Tournament.
The Tigers (12-1 overall, 1-0 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) knocked off Sioux City Bishop Heelan 21-16, 18-21, 15-5 to capture the tournament title.
“We had a great day, winning matches against all opponents included (Class) 4A No. 8 ranked Sioux City Heelan which we were very proud of,” said Red Oak coach Angie Montgomery. “Overall, the girls are jelling together so well and playing some inspired volleyball and as a result we are off to our best start to the season, 12-1, in years.”
Red Oak scored sweeps of Unity Christian 21-17, Underwood 21-11, 21-14, the host Rams 21-19, 21-18 and Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson 21-8, 21-13 in pool play to reach the tournament championship.
Jocelyn O’Neal  led the Tigers with 46 kills on the day. The senior added 39 digs and seven aces.
Keely Jones chipped in 35 kills, 29 digs and seven aces and Karly Jenkins added 21 kills.
Emily Sebeneicher directed the Tigers’ offense all day, dishing up 102 set assists and digging up 30 balls.
Mariel Ramirez led the Red Oak defense with 49 digs.
Stanton finished 1-5 in Glenwood with its lone winning come 21-18, 21-17 over Underwood. Cooper Stephens had four kills and Addison Jones and Lauren Roberts three each to lead the Viqueens in the win.
Gabi Grebin led the way with 54 set assists on the day.

Stanton 18-11-13

Sidney scored a 25-18, 25-11, 25-13 victory over Stanton in Corner Conference volleyball Thursday.
“We battled hard on the court tonight, but came up short in a tough matchup,” said Stanton coach John Mainquist. “The Viqueens kept the energy high and showed great effort. We will be in action this Saturday at the Glenwood tournament.”
Addy Gettler had two kills and Gabi Grebin four set assists to lead Stanton.
Gettler and Britney Silva notched 12 and 9 digs each, respectively.
Keyana Haggert led Sidney with 12 kills.

Red Oak 25-25-25
Atlantic 21-15-17

Red Oak hit a blistering .304 as a team with 37 kills in a 25-21, 25-15, 25-17 sweep of Atlantic in Hawkeye 10 Conference volleyball last Tuesday.
Jocelyn O’Neal led the Tiger attack with 11 kills. Karly Jenkins chipped in nine and     Emily Sebeniecher notched set 23 assists and Mariel Ramirez paced the defense with 19 digs.
Jillian Saathoff led Atlantic with six kills.
