Tigers’ Bond headed to state

Red Oak’s Nicole Bond punched her ticket to the Iowa State Girls Wrestling tournament with a second-place finish at the girls regional qualifiers in Red Oak Saturday.
Bond swept her way into the 130-pound finals with pins over Panorama’s Piper Downing, Missouri Valley’s Ellie Arrick before being pinned by Logan-Magnolia’s Gracyn Stone in the second period. Bond then survived a wrestleback with a pin of Riverside’s Sarah Cody to second her state bid.
The top two finishers at the regional qualify for state.
Three other Tigers just missed their shots at state. Emma Sallach (100 pounds), Amber Rea (135) and Paige Baier (155) all finished third at the state qualifier.
Southwest Valley’s Kenzie Maeder (145) lost her second-place match to Treynor’s Liz Young to just miss the state cutoff.

The Red Oak girls wrestling team notched four dual wins in a home meet Monday.
The Tigers picked up wins over Shenandoah 42-15, Harlan 41-6, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 42-30 and Southwest Valley 36-16.
Red Oak’s Madison Osheim (120 pounds), Nicole Bond (130), Amber Rea (135), Lilly Ford (140) and Paige Baier (155) were all a perfect 4-0 on the night. Jadeyn McAlpin (125) grabbed three victories.
Southwest Valley split its four matches. The Timberwolves recorded wins over Shenandoah 24-18 and Harlan 40-18. Their losses came to the host Tigers and Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 36-28.
The Timberwolves’ Peyton Briggs (100), Adalynn Phillips (115), and Kacy LaMasters (125) were 4-0 on the evening.
