Strong second half carries East Mills past Sidney
East Mills outscored Sidney 29-16 after halftime to pull away for a 52-28 victory over Sidney in Corner Conference boys basketball action Friday in Malvern.
The Wolverines (6-4 overall, 5-1 in the conference) shot 37.5 percent – 21-of-56 – from the field, but they turned the ball over just three times and assisted on 12 of their 21 made shots.
Mason Camden led the way with 24 points on 9-of-21 shooting. Beau Burdic added 15 points and five rebounds.
Carter Jorgensen’s 14 points led Sidney.

Essex 32
A hot-shooting East Mills squad outscored Essex 40-9 after halftime in an 85-32 win in Corner Conference boys basketball last Tuesday.
The Wolverines hit on 17-of-41 three-pointers in the win in a shooting display head coach Kevin Schafer believes could be a school record.
“I don’t know if we’ve ever shot like that,” Schafer said. “There was one time up in Logan Magnolia in 2010 when we were hitting everything but I don’t think we shot this many threes. But we shot a high percentage. I think one game earlier we had twelve; we were hot that night.
“There’s a little bit of a live with it, die with it. We’ve had some games where we have stretches where we’re cold and it looks like we’re not very big so you don’t get a lot of offensive rebounds and it can be tough. So, luckily, we’ve got quite a few kids who can shoot so usually one or two of them are on.”
Facing the Trojans’ 2-3 zone for most the night, the Wolverines were able to get off their fair share of open looks.
Essex coach Ray Baker said he stuck with zone out of fear of the Wolverine’s dribble penetration.
“I didn’t think we could switch out of it (the zone) because they have strong guards,” Baker said. “They were able to execute and we weren’t.”
Mason Camden overcame a bloody nose in the game to score a game-high 27 points. Zayne Graybill scored a career-high 24 points while hitting on 8-of-15 from behind the arc.
Beau Burdic added 16 points for East Mills.
Isaiah Sholes scored 19 points and Ashon Kline nine to lead Essex.
