Riverside nips Tigers at Clarinda invite

Atlantic topped the field in the girls race with a score of 35. Nebraska City was second with 59 points.
Atlantic’s Katrina Williams ran a 20:52 to win the girls race.
With just four runners competing in Clarinda, Red Oak’s girls did not tally a team score. Cate Horn ran a 25:26 to lead the way with a 32nd place finish.

Riverside pulled away from Red Oak to win the boys team title at the Clarinda Invitational Cross Country Meet last Tuesday.
The Bulldogs tallied 20 points for top honors with five runners placing in the top 10, led by Dawson Henderson’s first place time of 16:32.
The Tigers’ finished with 53 points as the runner up.
“Our boys battled with Riverside through the entire race, and they (the Bulldogs) came out on top,” said Red Oak coach Sueann French. “Our top three guys stuck with their top four, but they got us in the end. We knew they would be tough.  It was a good test for our boys team. We are super proud of everyone’s effort tonight.”
Emmanuel Grass paced the Tigers with a third-place finish time of 16:41. Hayden Hietbrink ran a 17:05 for fifth and Osiel Pedersen finished in 17:46 to place 10th to give Red Oak three top 10 finishers.
Southwest Valley was eighth in the boys team standings with a score of 216.
Anis Askhdar led the Timberwolves for the second straight meet with a 40th place finish time of 20:41.93. Brody Sparks took over three minutes off his time from last season to finish in 23:54.32 and 73rd.  Ben Waddell ran 24:13.26 to finish 76th.  Lucas James and Quaid Eddy paced each other throughout the majority of the race to finish in 24:51.39 (80th) and 24:54.62 (81st) respectively. Quaid had his largest improvement of the night for the varsity boys team taking 4:21 off his time from last season. 
Cameron Becker ran his first race of the season and finished in 27:29.77 in 92nd, while Henry Means finished in 38:07.61 in 102nd.
“The Clarinda course was much harder than the WCV (West Central Valley) course the boys ran on last week due to the hills, but I felt the times were very good and they did a great job tonight,” said Southwest Valley coach Jason Hults. “I feel like all the kids are headed in the right direction and making great progress each week.”
