Red Oak GBB falls to EM

The Red Oak Tiger varsity girls basketball team had their first game of the season, as they faced off with the East Mills Wolverines on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The Tigers had a rough night, falling to the Wolverines 63-20.

The Tigers scored eight points in the first quarter, but the shooting fell flat after that. 

“The girls did not quit and continued to work hard throughout the night,” Red Oak head girls basketball coach Cliff Owen said. 

Merced Ramirez led the Tiger scoring with nine points. Payten Bass added eight points and Maddie Doyle chipped in three points.

Ramirez finished with four rebounds, one steal; Bass three rebounds, three assists; and Lainey DeVries three rebounds.

East Mills had three girls finish in double-digit scoring: Emily Williams 18, Miah Urban 16, and Aspen Crouse 10. 

Williams also had nine rebounds, one assist, and four steals, while Crouse earned her first double-double of the season, getting 10 boards, two assists, two steals, and one block.

Urban finished with five rebounds, five assists, seven steals; Mia Goodman six points; Jenna Thornburg six points; Natalie Goodman five points; Nadia Gray two points; Kiley Barrett three rebounds; Kaelyn Curts one assist, one steal.

East Mills (1-0) plays on Thursday, Dec. 2 as they host Riverside, beginning at 6 p.m.

Red Oak (0-1) opens conference play tonight at home against Clarinda (1-1) with the tip off at 6 p.m.
