Tigers eighth at Shenandoah
The Red Oak boys golf team’s season is off and running.
With only seven members on the team and only six able to play in varsity competition, the Tigers have been working very hard to improve, said coach Bob Boeye.
Red Oak competed in the Mustang Invitational at Terrace Hills Golf Course last Tuesday.
“It was another hot and windy day and a long day since there were 16 teams, eight large schools and eight small schools,” Boeye said. “The Tigers played well and set a team score lower than any in the last 15 years.”
Atlantic, led by top medalist Gage Gross and his round of 73, won the team title with a score of 317. The host Mustangs were the runner-up at eight strokes back.
The Tigers finished with a team score of 345 for eighth place.
Wyatt Roberts shot an 83 to led Red Oak. Weston Couse carded an 87, Nolan Case an 88, Jayden Burke an 88 and Ty Roberts a 128.

Tigers seventh at Shenandoah
The Red Oak girls golfers showed their depth on the links with a top-half finish at the highly competitive Fillie Invite at the Shenandoah Golf Course.
The Tigers tallied a team score of 407 for seventh place. Council Bluffs Lewis Central captured the team title with a score of 371. Earlham was two strokes back for the runner-up finish.
Chloe Perfect of Lewis Central carded a 76 to win the individual title.
Facing off against a massive field of 91 golfers from across the region, the Tigers navigated challenging conditions to prove they belong among the area’s elite programs, said coach Patty Henke.
Leading the charge for Red Oak was Emily Sebeniecher, who delivered a standout performance by firing a personal-best 86. Her stellar round was enough to earn seventh place medalist honors, an impressive feat considering the nearly 100 competitors competing for a spot on the leaderboard.
The team’s overall success was further strengthened by consistent efforts and significant individual milestones. Paisley Gettler provided crucial stability to the team score with a solid 101 and personal best, while Ellison Johnson and Nellie Blaine battled the course to finish with a 108 and 112, respectively. Mylee Johnson followed closely behind with a 113, and the afternoon was capped off by Josie Sampson, who rounded out the Tiger lineup with a 131 in her varsity debut.
Henke was proud of her team’s effort and how they bounced back from a tough outing earlier in the week.
“Despite the heavy winds, the Tigers played with a renewed sense of confidence and excitement,” she said. “With this being only their second time on a course this year, the team’s ability to compete at such a high level suggests a high ceiling for the remainder of the season, leaving the Tigers with plenty of momentum and untapped potential moving forward.”
Southwest Valley was 13th at the tournament with a score of 454.
Sidney Crill shot a 107, Mackenzie Fast a 114, Kaya Owen a 121 and Natalie Grizzard a 123 for the Timberwolves.

Sebeniecher tops field at Tigers’ golf opener
After weather sidelined its first three meets of the season, the Red Oak girls and boys golf teams finally hit the links for its season debut with a co-ed dual at Southwest Valley on Monday at the Happy Hollow Country Club.
In a competitive, down-to-the-wire finish, the Red  Oak girls narrowly missed the team victory, falling to the Timberwolves by a slim two-stroke margin, 219–221.
While the team total was higher than the Tigers had intended for their first outing, the night was defined by grit and milestone performances, according to coach Patty Henke.
Emily Sebeniecher led the way, dominating the field with a round of 46 to secure individual meet medalist honors.
The Tigers’ varsity card was rounded out by a mix of veteran consistency and promising debuts. Nellie Blaine followed Sebeniecher with a 54, while Ellison Johnson turned in a 59. Mylee Johnson and Paisley Gettler, making their varsity debuts, shot a 62 and 63 respectively, followed by Jayda Edie who finished the night with a 78.
Despite the narrow loss, Henke was encouraged by the resilience shown by the roster after such a long layoff due to the spring weather.
The Timberwolves’ Sidney Crill was the runner up with a round of 46. Kenzie Fast added a round of 56, Kaya Owen a 58 and Natalie Grizzard a 59.
On the boys side, the Red Oak boys outshot the Timberwolves 176-190 to win the dual.
Wyatt Roberts carded a 39 for top honors and Nolan Case was the runner up with a round of 42. Weston Couse added a 42 and Jayden Burke a 53.
Southwest Valley was led by Kaden Greenwalt’s 43. Jake Brandt added a 45, Casey Jones and 46 and Declan O’Riley a 56.
