Red Oak falls on road to Harlan in postseason soccer

Carly Torneten scored three goals to lead Harlan to a 10-0 win over Red Oak in Class 1A, Region 6 opening round soccer last Monday in Harlan.
The Cyclones (9-6) notched its fourth straight win while scoring all 10 of their goals in the first half.
Despite the lopsided score, Red Oak Coach Dion Coffey was happy with how his team played.
“We pushed the ball up the field with great intentions of passing and had chemistry that worked well with many of our girls,” Coffey said. “It was the most aggressive we’ve played all season and I know the girls wanted to leave an impression for the following season that we don’t quit at any time and we will always fight back regardless of winning or losing a game. They truly did a fantastic job.”
Coffey commended the great play of Mareli Ramos, Haylee Joint and Keidy Camilo Perez moving the ball up the pitch while adding Jasmine Grizzard, Chloe Devito and Bryleigh Mauer “played with grit and didn’t allow anything easy in the midfield” and Mhylee Joint, Izzy Kraus, Kennady Adams, Hannah Gross and ShaeAnn Carpenter did their job slowing the Cyclones attack.
Tiger goalkeeper Mariella Richards-Hernandez had eight saves in goal.
“Mariella played incredible in net and stopped very difficult shots to keep us in the game,” Coffey said.
“I’m very proud of these girls and what they achieved this year as a first year varsity program,” Coffey added. “They left it all out on the pitch for their final game of the season. I can’t wait to see what we have in store for the coming years as a program.”
Emercyn Reischl had two goals and Abbie Andersen, Lily Schechinger, Claire Bieker and Charlotte Mages one goal each for the Cyclones.
