Red Oak competes at 9-10 LC Relays

The Red Oak girls placed fifth and the boys were sixth the Council Bluffs Lewis Central 9-10 Relays in Council Bluffs Thursday.
The host Titans captured the girls crown with 138 points in the meet consisting of only freshmen and sophomores. The Red Oak girls compiled 33.5 points competing with just three girls.
“We had a couple PRs (personal records) and a really great start to our outdoor season,” said Red Oak girls coach Abigail Ellsworth. “We’re so happy with how the girls competed tonight.”
Gabrielle Smith paced the Tigers with a top finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:31.54. She added a second-place medal in the 100-meter hurdles.
Keely Jones paced the Tigers with a second-place medal in the long jump with a top lead of 14 feet, 9.5 inches. and Natalie Johnson tied for 4th with 14’ 3”.
Natalie Johnson placed ninth in the 100 and added a seventh-place finish in the 200.
The Red Oak boys tallied 71 points for sixth place. Atlantic was the team champion with 125 points.
“What a great night for our ninth and 10th grade boys,” said Red Oak boys coach Sueann French. “So many good things happened tonight. Our relays came together so well, both the 4x800 ran well and distance medley relay.”
The Tigers notched a pair of gold medals in Council Bluffs. Emmanuel Grass ran 4:53 to win the 1,600 and the 4x800-meter relay team of Reese Montgomery, Hayden Hietbrink, Osiel Pederson and Grass topped the field.
Montgomery ran a 2:16 to pick up a second-place medal in the 800-meters and the distance medley team of Damian Goodman, Aiden Aulet, Pace Chaillie and Montgomery was also second.
Hayden Hietbrink added a third place showing in the 800 and Chaillie was third in the 200.
