Red Oak battles Atlantic, Clarinda on the courts

Atlantic defeats Tigers
Atlantic came into Red Oak and left with an 8-1 victory in a Hawkeye 10 Conference boys tennis dual Thursday.
The Trojans won all six singles matches and two of three doubles matches in the win.
The Tigers’ lone win came from Dillan Rydberg and AJ Beeson in an 8-3 doubles win over the Trojans’ Rayden Wheeler and Brock Goodrich.
“The final score of 8-1 doesn’t reflect the competitiveness of this meet, with four matches being decided by three games or less,” said Red Oak coach Weston Rolenc. “Atlantic is a more experienced team with four seniors, and that experience showed in closing out the tight matches. I sound like a broken record, but these competitive matchups are providing our younger athletes invaluable experience that will pay off down the road. Shout out to the duo of Rydberg/Beeson for preventing the sweep.”

Red Oak went on the road and dropped a 9-0 decision to Clarinda in a Hawkeye 10 Conference dual last Tuesday.
The Panthers won all six singles and three doubles matches in the victory.
“We knew Clarinda had a lot of experience,” said Red Oak coach Luis MacDonald. “Many of their players have been competing longer than ours have been in the gam but our girls didn’t back down. They kept swinging, kept encouraging each other, and showed up with the kind of effort and heart we can be proud of.”
Sophie Snyder had the closest singles match for Red Oak, picking up three games. Anna Butz and Mariella Hernandez also pushed through several extended rallies. In doubles, the team of Ramirez and Snyder played well in a competitive 4-8 match.
