Clear Lake rallies to knock off Tigers

Red Oak built a 7-0 lead after three innings but couldn’t hang on in a 13-8 loss to Clear Lake in non-conference baseball Friday.
The Tigers (8-9 overall, 3-8 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) plated five runs in the second and two more in the third to go up 7-0 after three innings. But the Lions’ bats came alive in the fourth, scoring five runs in the fourth and eight more runs over the final three innings in the come-from-behind win.
“We got out to an early lead and played really well in the first three innings,” said Red Oak coach Mark Erickson. “From inning four on, we gave up too many free bases with walks and errors.  Credit to Clear Lake as they got their offense going with 14 hits.”
Reese Montgomery started and pitched three and 2/3 scoreless innings before giving way to Brody Bond. Bond pitched an inning and a third and allowed six earned runs on five hits.  Cale Hall closed out the final two innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits to take the loss on the hill.
Brett Erickson singled, scored a run, and drove in a run for the Tigers.  Carson Roeder singled and had an RBI and Hall singled and scored two runs.
Tanner Nelson picked up the win on the mound, tossing 2 1/3 innings and allowing a hit and striking out three.

Clarinda 3,

The three runs were all Cardinal hurler Jordan Butt needed in the complete game. The junior scattered three hits and one earned run while striking out six.
Nolan Wagoner and Kort Neal had two hits each for Clarinda.
“We needed to make the routine plays and get our offense going a bit more to have a chance to win this one,” said Red Oak coach Mark Erickson.
Brett Erickson pitched five innings and took the loss on the hill.  The senior allowed two earned runs on four hits, walked two and struck out three.  Adam Baier came on to pitch two scoreless innings to close it out.
Masen Fisher singled twice, while Brody Bond added a hit and Carson Roeder drove in a run on a groundout.

Carson Roeder had two hits and Montgomery, Fisher and Blake Sloan each added hits.
