Golf Recap: Red Oak finishes fifth at sectionals
RED OAK — The Red Oak boys’ golf season ended Friday at the Red Oak Country Club when the Tigers fell short in advancing to the district tournament.
Red Oak finished fifth in the sectional with a team score of 361. Shenandoah won the meet with 326, while Treynor was second with 327. Southwest Valley took sixth with 399.
None of the Red Oak and Southwest Valley golfers placed in the top five.
Ryan Plambeck had the best finish for Red Oak when he shot an 82, which tied him for sixth. Connor Johnson shot a 90, while Nolan Black had a 93 and Justin Bernard recorded a 96.
Nick Carlson shot a 103 and Ethan Hewett finished with a 107.
Southwest Valley’s top golfer was Ryan Carlson, who shot an 89. Scott Vanderhoof shot a 97. Cole Swenson had a 106, while Lane Peterson finished with a 107. Jarod Shires had a 117.
The meet was delayed for nearly two hours as thunderstorms passed through the area.
Griswold Sectional
Meanwhile, the Griswold boys’ golf team won their sectional Friday at the Griswold Golf and Country Club.
The Tigers posted a team score of 329, beating out Nodaway Valley by 13 strokes. East Mills was sixth in the meet with 389.
James Reynolds of Griswold was the medalist, as he shot a 75. Treighton Oakleaf and Jake Reynolds both shot 84s, while Tyler Wyman had an 86 and Jacob Lewis shot an 89. Joe Schoning wrapped it up for Griswold with a 97.
East Mills’ top golfer was Logan Currin, who shot an 86. Kameron Wederquist shot a 97, while Kyle Ryun had a 100. Weston Copperstone finished with a 106.
Hawkeye 10 meet
The Red Oak boys finished ninth while the girls were 10th at last week’s Hawkeye 10 meet in Council Bluffs.
The top golfer for the boys team was Johnson, who shot an 89. Gabe Nelson had a 90, while Nolan Black shot a 91. Carlson had a 93 and Bernard shot a 94. Plambeck shot a 96.
Lauren Gilbert was the top golfer for the girls, as she shot a 116. Shelbie Perez had a 126, while Reilley Black shot a 130. Sadie Uhlenberg had a 135 and Belle Perkins finished with a 162.
The girls team was home Monday as they hosted the regional meet. Results weren’t available as of press time.
