Friday Football: 2A Week 4 Preview

The Red Oak Tigers return for a home game Friday night as they host West Central Valley.

The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Russ Benda Field at Red Oak Legion Park.

Red Oak (2-1) got off to a 1-0 start in district play last week when they defeated Shenandoah 32-27. A win Friday night would put them at 2-0 in 2A-District 8.

Red Oak running back Brock Isaacson has been a critical component to Red Oak's hot start. Isaacson leads Class 2A in rushing yards with 688. In last week's Shenandoah win, Isaacson had 271 yards rushing on 42 carries with three touchdowns.

West Central Valley remains winless on the season. They're 0-3 and coming off a blowout loss on the road, 62-0, to Kuemper Catholic

West Central Valley has scored 20 points on offense thus far this season.

This will be the fifth meeting ever between the two schools and first since the 2007 season.

Red Oak leads the series, having won three of the four meetings. West Central Valley won 35-0 in 2007.

The Tigers wins in the match-up have all been by blowouts (42-6 in 2004, 70-0 in 2005 and 40-0 in 2006).

Elsewhere, the Shenandoah Mustangs hit the road as they take on Southeast Valley in Gowrie. Both teams are 0-1 in district play and would prefer to avoid an 0-2 start.

In Clarinda, the Cardinals look to get back on track for the season when they host East Sac County.

Clarinda suffered an upset loss last week to AHSTW, 12-8. The Cardinals will try to start the district season with a win.

East Sac County meanwhile has won two straight, including last week's district opener, 23-8, versus Southeast Valley.

This will be the first meeting between East Sac County and Clarinda.

The only non-district game on the schedule for Friday night in 2A-8 features Kuemper Catholic at South Central Calhoun.

Kuemper Catholic has won two straight, including last week's district opener versus West Central Valley, 62-0. They play a South Central Calhoun team taht is fresh off a 62-19 win against Woodward Academy.

This is the first meeting between the two schools since 2012. Kuemper Catholic has won two straight, including 46-12 in 2012.
