East Mills, Stanton shine during Bob Weber relays

 The East Mills boys’ track team took third, while Stanton finished fourth at last Tuesday’s Bob Weber Relays, hosted by Nishnabotna.

East Mills had a score of 105, while Stanton had 48. Essex finished seventh with 24 points in the 10 team field.

The highlight for East Mills came in the high jump when Sam Rew jumped 6’ to get the win. Alec Moorman was fifth with 5’6”.

East Mills also had strong finishes in the long jump as Josh Hopkins (18’4.5”) took second and Dylan Schroeder (17’10.5”) was third.

The other big East Mills win came in the 4x200 when the team of Hopkins, Nick Perkins, Noah Meyer and Cavin Darnold ran a time of 1:42.07, beating out Fremont-Mills by two seconds.

The 4x400 team of Hopkins, Darnold, Austin Edmunds and Meyer took second with 3:54.48.

For Stanton, it was Alex Becthold with the highlights as he won two field events, including the discus with a throw of 145’10”. 

Becthold’s other win came in the shot put when he had a throw of 46’4”, edging out Fremont-Mills’ Spencer Phillips.

Stanton had a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles when Connor Hultman ran a time of 1:03.77, three seconds behind Nishnabotna’s Andrew Welch.

Stanton finished second in the shuttle hurdles and fifth in the 4x400. 

In the 4x400, the team of Chris Jones, Brady Johnson, Easton Blunt and Hultman ran a time of 4:26.55.

The 4x200 team finished fourth as Becthold, Johnson, Hultman and Blunt ran 1:48.96.

Individually, Jones was sixth in the 100-meter dash with 11.98. Matt Wood was sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:34.67.

Essex

The Trojans had two wins, both coming courtesy of Cody McClintock. 

McClintock won both the 1,600 and 800. In the 1,600, McClintock dominated with a time of 5:02.80, nearly 25 seconds ahead of Fremont-Mills’ Dakota Moss-Erickson. The other win came in the 800 as McClintock ran a time of 2:13.99.
