Charles E. Shipe, 82

Charles E. Shipe, 82, of Red Oak, died Sept. 1, 2009.

Charles Edward Shipe, the son of John O. and Lillian L. (McBaine) Shipe was born, May 3, 1927, in Columbia, Mo.

Charlie was raised in Columbia, Mo., graduating from University Laboratory High School in l945. He entered the U.S. Navy on April 26, 1945, serving in Asiatic Pacific Theater operations in the Philippines aboard submarine chaser #SC1014 . The sub-chaser was decommissioned and Charlie was reassigned to the LST 895. Charlie was honorably discharged on July 15, 1946, returning to Columbia, Mo. He married Carolyn Windsor on Aug. 27, 1950, in Columbia, Mo. Charlie was a member of: First United Methodist Church, founder and charter member of the Izaak Walton League, Nishna Valley Rifle & Pistol Club, American Legion Lorraine Post #67, and past member of the Red Oak Chamber of Commerce.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; brother: Clyde Shipe; and son-in-law: Rick Hoover.

Charlie is survived by his wife: Carolyn Shipe of Red Oak; daughter: Deb Hoover of Red Oak; son: Steve (Sue) Shipe of Bennington, Neb.; three grandchildren; and sister-in-law: Marjorie Shipe of Polson, Mont.

Funeral Service were held Sept. 4 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Dean officiating.
