Charges filed in Go Cart accident

RED OAK — A Red Oak man was arrested on two felony charges last week stemming from a Go Kart accident that injured his 2-year-old son.

Tuesday at 1:05 a.m., Red Oak police officers arrested Shawn Michael Soar, 35, on felony charges of child endangerment and serious injury by vehicle.

Soar is accused of driving the Go Kart into the front of a parked 1987 Mazada pickup truck in the 700 block of E. Grimes. His son, Ryan, was riding on his lap and suffered serious injuries. He was life flighted to an Omaha hospital where he was treated and eventually released.

Initial police reports also indicate alcohol usage was a factor in the accident and additional charges are pending test results.

Soar remains in custody in the Montgomery County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
