ACCIDENTS

  • On March 23 at about 4:58 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated an accident in the vicinity of 6th and Elm Streets. Danielle Gilliland, 19, Red Oak, driving a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, was traveling west and was unable to see the 2001 Mitsubishi driven by Teanna Pafford which was traveling south. Gilliland struck Pafford’s vehicle causing it to strike a power pole, which had no damage. Gilliland’s vehicle sustained $2,000 damage and damage to Pafford’s vehicle was estimated at $4,000. Pafford was cited for failure to yield to vehicle on the right.
  • On March 24 at about 9:15 a.m., Red Oak Police officers were called to 106 W. Washington for a single-vehicle accident. Cleo Royer, 84, Essex, driving a 2000 Lincoln Town Car, was crossing a bridge while going north when she hydroplaned, left the road, hit a street sign, went through a yard and ended up in a parking lot. Damage to Royer’s car was estimated at $7,000, about $250 to the sign and about $300 to the yard. Royer was issued a warning for failure to maintain control.
  • On March 25 at about 4:37 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated an accident at the intersection of Highway 34 and the entrance to Senate Avenue. Janice Robinson, 60, Villisca, driving a 2003 Ford Explorer, and Ronda Woods, 55, Red Oak, driving a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, were both traveling west on Highway 34 when Robinson signaled a right-hand turn and slowed down. Woods then struck the rear of Robinson’s vehicle. Robinson was transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital by Red Oak Rescue for minor injuries. Damage to Robinson’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000 and to Woods’ vehicle at $7,000, a total loss. Woods was issued a warning for following too closely. The Red Oak Police Department was assisted by Red Oak Fire and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office.
  • On March 27 at 8 a.m., Red Oak Police Department officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 34 and North 8th Street. Thoedore Fundermann, 32, Red Oak, driving a 2010 Nissan Altima was stopped on Highway 34 waiting to turn south onto North 8th Street. Rebecca Peterson, 50, Stanton, driving a 2001 Chrysler Concorde LX owned by Matthew Peterson, Stanton, who was driving west on Highway 34, struck Fundermann’s vehicle from behind when she did not notice Fundermann was waiting to turn. Peterson told officers she was unable to stop due to the road being damp. Damage to Fundermann’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500, and damage to Peterson’s vehicle was also about $1,500.  Peterson received a warning for following too close.
