Woman assaulted outside her home; suspect at-large

Red Oak police are searching for a man who attacked an 81-year-old woman at her home Sunday morning while stealing $11. 

According to a press release, at 7:05 a.m., an unknown male accosted the woman outside of her residence in the 700 block of North 6th Street. 

He forced her into her home and demanded money, at which time she gave him the $11 she had in the house. 

While being held down by the suspect, the victim stated he told her “do not look at me or I will shoot you,” although she saw no weapon. She was transported to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for treatment of what are believed to be minor injuries. 

After the suspect left the residence, police as well as a Montgomery County K9 unit responded. However, the K9 search was unsuccessful; an ongoing forensic investigation continues. 

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-30s, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing dark pants, a dark jacket and a blue-colored shirt. He was also wearing a baseball cap, dark rimmed glasses, has dark graying hair extending below the ears and a deep voice. 

Anyone with information about this crime or who may have observed anyone in the area is urged to contact the police department at 623-6500. 

“If you observe a person fitting the description of the suspect, do not approach him,” Police Chief Drue Powers stated in a press release. “Call the Red Oak Police Department and give a detailed description of the subject and his current location. This suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.”
